The app stores only the following on our server.
For your light:

The hash cannot be turned back into your anonymous ID, and it cannot be linked to your light's record. Other people see your answer as a light on their map.
If you turn on notifications in Settings, the app also stores:
The push token is an address for delivering notifications to your device; it cannot tell us who you are. Delivery goes through Expo (Expo, Inc.) and Apple's push notification services. Turn notifications off and the token is deleted from our server immediately.
Every anonymous ID is a random number, never connected to your name, email address, or phone number. None of this can tell us who you are. The invitation ID can never be linked to your light's ID or your purchase ID.
We do not collect: GPS or any location data, names, email addresses, contacts, photos, or advertising IDs. There are no accounts. There are no ads, no tracking, and no analytics SDKs.
Your light is placed at a random spot inside the country you chose (or, if you chose "Somewhere on Earth", at a random spot anywhere on Earth). Your real location never leaves your device.
The data above is stored in a cloud database operated by Cloudflare, Inc.
All payments are processed by Apple. The developer never receives your card details. We use RevenueCat, Inc. to validate and count purchases; purchase records are tied to a separate random anonymous ID. That ID is not the same as your light's ID — a purchase can never be connected to a light on the map.
Your language, chosen country, and anonymous ID are also stored on your device. Deleting the app removes them all.
You can remove your light at any time, from the app's Settings screen. Removing it deletes your chosen country or region from the server and takes your light off the map and out of the count. An anonymous participation record — the random anonymous ID, when your light was first lit, and when it was last updated — remains on the server; choose your country or region again and your light relights with the same record. Removing your light does not affect invitation links. Records from "Anyone there?" and "I'm here" stay on the server after you remove your light.
The data on our server is designed so it cannot identify anyone, which means we still cannot tell which data is yours — only the app on your device can identify its own light. For that reason we remain unable to fulfil deletion requests made by email. If you plan to delete the app, we recommend removing your light from inside the app first.
